Mexican cuisine is all about adding in the right blend of spices to create dishes that wow. From a traditional bean dip to tacos, fajitas and much more, there are countless dishes available in authentic Mexican restaurants. Chayote

This small fruit resembles a pear in appearance. However, it has a texture that resembles a squash. In fact, many people compare its taste to a squash as well. You can prepare this fruit much in the same way that you would summer squash or bell peppers. Some individuals have referred to the fruit as a vegetable pear. It tastes amazing and brings a texture to the food that other fruits simply cannot do.

Chile

Chiles are also referred to as hot peppers, and rightfully so with their extremely hot taste. There are a couple hundred different varieties of these delectable chiles, with a number of them being native to Mexico. Smaller chiles tend to be hotter in taste, while the larger chiles are milder. The chiles get their heat from the capsaicin, which is found inside of the seeds and the veins of the chile. You can chop chiles up and include them in any number of sauces, salsas and dishes in Mexican cuisine today.

Jalapeno

The jalapeno was actually named after Mexico's capital, Veracruz. Jalapenos are smooth to the touch and dark green in color. If the peppers are a scarlet red color, that means they are ripe. They range in taste from being hot to extremely hot. When dried out, many refer to them as chipotle chiles. Typical Mexican cuisine incorporates the jalapeno into salsas and sauces to add some heat.

Pico de Gallo

This relish is made of ingredients such as onions, tomatoes, chiles, garlic and cilantro. The ingredients are chopped into extremely fine pieces and blended with an assortment of seasonings. You can add this relish to chips, tacos, fajitas and much more. It adds a flavor that is zesty and invigorating to the senses.

While these are only a few of the ingredients in Mexican dishes today, you can find many others when you dine on some of the tastiest cuisines that your typical Mexican restaurant has to offer. See if you can find any of these ingredients in the next Mexican dish you eat!
